THE EDGE
A HIGHLY PERSONAL, KINETIC EXPLORATION OF THE
BALANCING POINT BETWEEN VITALITY AND DECAY
“...raw, complicated, stinging, sometimes comical, and extraordinarily human”
— Amelia Rose Estrada, thINKingDANCE
The Edge uses autobiographical events to communicate the experience of living with permanent, long term diseases—and caretaking for those who do—in a pungent and vivid way. The piece utilizes dance, theatre, acrobatics, recordings, and live music to take the audience through a highly personal, kinetic exploration of the balancing point between vitality and decay.
Mia’s father has been living with Alzheimer's for 10 years and her mother is his full time caretaker. Des’ life partner was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer and has been living with it for two years. The Edge investigates what effect these realities have on the living of life—how do two people in their mid-twenties, at the beginning of their careers, navigate unsteady familial structures through their own personal, social, and professional growth? Where do priorities fall and what sacrifices are necessary? The Edge sifts through these questions to reveal experiences that are messy, raucous, gleeful, imperfect, sharply pleasurable and ultimately, candidly human.
